30 July 2009

The only way my girls will eat an apple. I wonder where they get that from?

29 July 2009

We've joined our friends playgroup for the summer holidays and hosted an activity at our house today. The kids had a great time icing cookies and playing all morning while the moms chatted and caught up.

28 July 2009

Sophie with Miffy--
* 17 weeks
* enjoys sleeping on her tummy now. She starts off swaddled and on her back and during the early hours of the morning, rolls over onto her tum.
* doesn't sit still
* loves to play with toys
* spends very little time on her back now. prefers to roll over and enjoy tummy time instead
* 12 hours sleep last night!
* enjoys going for walks in the pram
* has sweaty hands and feet. I've read up about it and believe it's the body's way of regulating its temperature. She should grow out of it by about 9 months

27 July 2009

Bryn and I got to sit back and enjoy a Family Home Evening lesson presented by Savannah and Madison. So cute.

26 July 2009

I consider breakfast the be the most important meal of the day. I try to pack as much goodness into the start of our day, as that's when the girls are at their hungriest. We eat either oatmeal porridge, all bran or homemade museli, with milk or yoghurt as well as fresh fruit and water. The girls know the drill and are good eaters. I'm a 'cool' mom, come Saturdays, as the girls are allowed to help themselves to a junk breakfast (honey loops / chocos) while I enjoy a weekend lie in.

Savannah and Madison got to pick out a pack of mini junk breakfasts for the holidays. It's up to them to decide how long their stash will last. I opened up the pantry today and wondered why my shelf was so disorganised. I quickly realised why, when I saw the hidden cereals. The girls are fast learners. They're not worried about me eating their treat, it's the male of the house they've got to watch out for!

Oops, Bryn I hope you don't find this entry before the cereals are finished :)

25 July 2009

We've been lucky this summer. We've had very few days like this.

24 July 2009

Madison felt that Sophie needed a little teddy and her dummy shoved back in her mouth during a very peaceful sleep. Luckily the peaceful sleep continued.

23 July 2009

We visit the gym most mornings and Savannah uses this time to practice her Maths. She completes 4 pages a day. I'm surprised at the many comments we've received. You cruel mother. Let her have a holiday. Why are you doing Maths? To them I say, hard work has never killed anyone.

22 July 2009

Mmmm. Bryn's signature spare ribs for dinner.

21 July 2009

Sophie with Miffy--
* 16 weeks
* rolls over constantly (mainly from back to tummy)
* has become much more active and robust this past week
* enjoys a 200ml bottle feed at night before bed. Savannah helps with this from time to time
* very alert. Loves to watch whoever is talking to her

20 July 2009

I've been looking for a jogging stroller for a while now. My friend, Lisa kindly gave me hers. I look forward to adding an outdoor run to my training schedule.

19 July 2009

Isn't this just marvelous? My special helper.

18 July 2009

Birthday dinner with friends at Donati's was fun.

17 July 2009

Growing up, my dad filled the home with jolly piano tunes just about every day. Bryn plays too (just one song though ;)--Enya's Watermark), but I enjoy it so much.

16 July 2009

Come summer in Holland, and you'll find yourself sitting at canal intersections for that much longer. Not only do you have to wait for pedestrians, other traffic and bicycles, but boats have right of way too. I sat at this light with the bridge flipped up vertically, for about 10 minutes while 3 big boats sailed by.

15 July 2009

Favourite pre-pregnancy jeans buttoned closed today, without muffin top spills :) What a 30th birthday present!

14 July 2009

Sophie with Miffy--
* 15 weeks
* laughs with gusto
* can bring her hands together to hold something I give her
* greets us in the mornings with the biggest smile and body wiggle
* feeds about 7 times a day still with 1 bottle at night before bed
* we put her down at 8pm and she sleeps til around 6:30 / 7am
* rubs her eyes when she's tired. So cute!

13 July 2009

I can wash my hair all by myself. Mama is soooo happy! She helps me rinse it out.

12 July 2009

This little sweetheart spent her entire Sunday morning creating a get well card and gift for her friend, Zora who was in the hospital.

11 July 2009

I had the pleasure of volunteer teaching in Madison's class this year. It was great to give something back to the school and to get involved. It makes all the difference when dealing with the school, I've learned! I taught English with my friend, Kristy. Some of the moms in the class got together and arranged for the children to paint beautiful "Engelse drop" (English liquorice--we call it liquorice allsorts)plates to thank us. What a great idea. I'll remember this for future gifts.

10 July 2009

School's out for the summer! Hip hip hooray.

I'm looking forward to having my girls with me all day, having no school lunches to prepare and later starts to the day.

9 July 2009

Finding this makes a mom so happy.

8 July 2009

Sophie with Miffy--
* 14 weeks
* weighs 5440g
* found her hands
* had 2nd round of injections. Developed a fever and was quite 'otherwise'. Paracetamol did the trick
* manages to put dummy back in her mouth if it falls out onto her chest. It's so funny to watch, as she doesn't let go, so out it pops again!

7 July 2009

Birthday girl snuggles before school.

6 July 2009

When I was little, my sisters and I would be creative by sticking sea shells on our nails with presstick to make long nails. Madison reminded me of this today when she came up with a new alternative to pierced earrings--bangles with sticky tape. Yep, another use for our indispensible tape.

5 July 2009

She did it! Savannah has completed her A, B and C swimming diplomas and now we're on to the next challenge--Zwem Vaardigheid (safety swimming). It should be fun!

4 July 2009

Yet another use for our endless supply of sticky tape at our house. Madison loves to pick flowers and arrange them beautifully for us. She must take after her grandpa!

3 July 2009

And the result of very little sleep and lots of fun in the dirt at school camp. Sergeant Mom told her to report straight to the bathroom for a de-camp scrub.

2 July 2009

I figured it was a good time to clear out Savannah's 'dump shelf' while she was away camping! She's a hoarder and I'm not. Simple as that. Who needs leaves and old gum wrappers and even pencil shavings next to their bed?

1 July 2009

Savannah went camping for 3 days and 2 nights with her school class. Getting her ready for departure what quite an ordeal. Camping always equals a long list of items, so it took a good few days to gather everything she needed.

30 June 2009

Sophie with Miffy--
* 13 weeks
* rolls from back to front
* seems to notice when I leave the room
* holds small toys and swats away at her play gym mobile
* started to dribble
* everything goes in the mouth
* squirms a lot now
