I have purposefully not replaced the light bulb in the girls' room. The passage light provides enough light for stories and getting ready for bed in the evenings. Tonight, when I went to check on Madison before I retired for the night, I was impressed with her book-by-flashlight-secured-into-the-top-bunkbed improvisation.
